NOTES FROM THE TABLE

Meet Scorpion

Keep these points in mind. Moves build down in the same suit rather than allowing cross-suit destinations. The tableau has seven columns. Four complete King-to-Ace runs clear the game. Scorpion on snbdavid.com uses one 52-card deck with four suits.

Read the opening cards

The following details apply here. Three cards remain in the stock. Each opening column contains seven cards for a total of 49 tableau cards. The first three cards in each of the first four columns are face down. All cards in the last three columns are face up.

Build in the same suit

The following details apply here. A moved group's leading card must land on a card exactly one rank higher in the same suit. A King cannot land on another card because no higher rank exists. A seven of hearts can land on an exposed eight of hearts. A seven of hearts cannot land on an eight of spades.

Order within a group may vary

Any face-up card can be selected together with every card beneath it. The selected cards do not need to share a suit to travel together. The selected cards do not need to descend in rank to travel together. The leading selected card still has to meet the destination rule.

The empty-column rule

A group led by a lower rank cannot enter an empty column. An empty column accepts a King or a group led by a King. Cards beneath a moved King do not need to be in sequence. An empty column is therefore less flexible than an empty column in ordinary Spider.

Reveal the hidden cards

Here are the details for this mode. The next hidden card is revealed automatically. Removing all face-up cards above a hidden card turns that hidden card face up. An exposed card can carry the cards beneath it when its own destination is legal. Undo restores the earlier hidden-card arrangement when the move is reversed.

Use the stock once

The following details apply here. The stock contains one final deal of three cards. Dealing places a face-up card on each of the first three columns. This Scorpion version permits its stock deal when columns are empty. There are no further stock cards after the three-card deal.

Collect ordered runs

The following details apply here. Moving an unordered group does not make that group a completed sequence. A completed run must descend from King to Ace in one suit. The game removes a qualifying run automatically from the bottom of a column. All thirteen cards in a collected run must be face up.

Practice Scorpion decisions

A few details help explain this feature. Hint lists legal choices without promising a winning continuation. Checking the whole moved group helps you anticipate what will become blocked. Replay and Undo let you explore another approach to the same layout. A move can carry unwanted cards along with a useful leading card.

Save a Scorpion session

The following details apply here. Random Scorpion shuffles are not advertised as guaranteed winnable. My Statistics records Scorpion starts and wins separately from other variants. Scorpion keeps a separate saved position when game saving is enabled. Privacy & Cookie Settings lets you remove local saved games and results.
